Description: Toyotomi Hideyoshi scales a cliff by moonlight. He is seeking an unguarded route into the Saito stronghold of Gifu castle. This castle was located in a strategically important location in Mino province. In 1564, the well-guarded castle had effectively stopped the forward progress of Oda Nobunaga's military campaign. Hideyoshi carries a water gourd upon his back which he will later raise on a pole once inside the castle, signalling his troops.
