Description: The Shijō bridge crosses the Kamo river, which runs through central Kyoto. The banks of the Kamo have been built up with teahouses and restaurants and remains a popular attraction to this day. In the heat of the summer, it was common to visit the banks of the river at Shijō to cool off. Here, a waitress cools her feet while sitting on a wooden bench placed in the water.
