Description : Tuesday, 10 May 2005 A BEAUTIFULLY HAND PAINTED JAPANESE WATERCOLOR FROM THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY, PAINTED AND SIGNED IN THE LOWER RIGHT HAND CORNER BY H. SAITO. PAINTED IN FINE DETAIL IN THE WESTERN STYLE OF WATERCOLORS. THE SCENE IS OF A BEAUTIFUL KIMONO CLAD WOMAN PRACTISING HER SHAMISEN PLAYING. IN THE FOREGROUND ARE STEP STONES THAT LEAD INTO THE GARDEN WHERE THERE IS A STONE LANTERN AND SOME BLOSSOMING CHRYSANTHEMUMS. THE DETAILING OF THE DWELLING, STONE LANTERN, FLOWERS INSIDE OF THE ROOM IS VERY BEAUTIFULLY DONE. THE ARTIST HAS CAPTURED THE TRANQUIL BEAUTY OF PRE-WAR JAPAN. THE PAINTING MEASURES 10 1/8" WIDE BY 14 7/8" TALL. THE PAINTING IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, ALTHOUGH THE OFF WHITE EDGES SHOW SLIGHT DISCOLORATION.
