Description : Saturday, 4 June 2005 The Heron Maiden: 1st edition printing Artist: Tsunetomi Format: Dai oban tate-e, silver mica ground: 21.75" x 14.5" approx Subject: This super sized design represents the story of a Snow Heron transformed into a beautiful City Maiden on a snowy evening and then back into a Heron at dawn. One of the great tours de force of the Shin Hanga movement and exceedingly rare in the limited 1st edition of which this is numbered 32. The later commercial edition lacks the rectangular artists seal and the limited edition seal at base. Publisher: Printed by Block Carver: Yamana Ryoko. Printer: Matsuno Kasui Date: 1923 Condition: Full size. Some areas of slight scraping in left margin. Some wear and signs of restorations to mica. A sharp crease in bottom right corner (re-inforced on verso).Minor creases, marks and flaws. Generally quite good state of preservation. Colour: Very fine. Impression: Very fine 1st edition printing with mica and hand painted gofun for the snow flakes. Estimated Value: 」3000 - 」3500
