Description : PAUL JACOULET Tempete du Coeur, Seoul Coree -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: original 1948 Size: double oban approx. 18.25" x 13.5" Condition: Very Good, toning in left margin does not effect image area, small tape residue at left margin, thinning of one inch on verso, small white cloth tape at top on verso, very slightly trimmed Impression: Fine, 1st edition (see photos below) Color: Fine, deep saturated color, excellent texture and bleed through -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This classic Jacoulet composition was published on August 27, 1948 in an edition of fewer that 240 according to Miles. This is number 158 as indicated by the stamp on the verso. It bears the 1st edition ivy seal and pencil signature of Jacoulet. The carver was Maeda, and the printers Fujii and Ogawa. This refined print has a rich and delicate surface, particularly noticable in the womans bodice, and also boasts one of Jacoulet's finest silver gray mica backgrounds. The vague sense of dissatisfaction on the pearly pink face of the woman as she considers the man who is to marry her speaks volumes. The key to her hope chest, laying on the floor, perfectly balances the grey expanse that the artist uses to symbolize her future in marriage. It is interesting to note that this young woman also posed for another Jacoulet print called La Mariee.
