Description : Monday, 3 December 2007 This rare and very early original watercolor by Japanese artist S. Tosuke (Tosuki) is in VERY GOOD condition! Tosuke's watercolor works are known to go back as far as 1922. This particular painting was purchased in Japan around 1923/24. The family provenance can date this piece to that time period because it belonged to a gentleman who traveled to Japan around 1923 for the purpose of visiting/vacationing there for pleasure before reaching his final destination which was Shanghai China where he set up a Dentistry practice and lived until approximately 1939. I spoke personally to the nephew of the gentleman who shared this history and confirmed the dates and time frame as to when this painting was purchased. This watercolor measures approximately 20" long and 13-1/4" wide (both measurements are to the edges of the paper). There are no holes, tears or stains on the painting. There are tiny edge tears typical of the type of paper that was used back then. Colors are still very vibrant as this piece was never hung or framed. It has been covered and stored flatly for over 80 years! Back is clean and free of any marks, dirt, glue, etc. Magnificant condition!
