Description : Monday, 17 July 2006 You are bidding on an EXTRA LARGE and very beautiful and rare original Japanese Shin Hanga woodblock print “Bijin” PENCIL SIGNED by the Showa Shin Hanga woodblock master Takagi Yoshio (1923-). His woodblock prints are well known to feature images of beautiful women (bijin-ga) and nature prints The print size is 22 x 17 1/4 inches, which is much larger than the traditional Shin Hanga woodblock print. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers. All four borders are intact. The original pencil writing of the artist’s signature “Takagi Yoshio” and his chop mark are at the right end of the bottom border, and 84/85, which means the 84th print out of the 85 prints, is at the left end of the bottom border. You can clearly tell it is his handwritten in pencil by the depth of pencil indentation into the original Japanese mulberry paper. Minor ink bleeding can be seen through the back of the thick original Japanese mulberry Washi paper. Except for a minor foxing dot at the right end of the top border, which does not affect the image at all, this woodblock print is in excellent condition.
