Description : You are bidding on a Japanese woodblock print “The Ebisubashi Bridge” which is the 4th of the Series “Thirty-six Views of Osaka” signed by the famous early Showa artist Rasaku Akamatsu (1898-1953). This woodblock print comes with a small pamphlet that says “The artist Rinsaku Akamatsu, being an authority of modern western style painting, selected the thirty-six views of Osaka in order to represent them as they were before the recent war damages, and made the views into woodblock prints.” “Number 4 of the Series, Ebisubashi Bridge, A neon-flood, area at night, a cluster of movie theatres, cabarets, restaurants, night-clubs, specialty stops and stores.” A biography of Rinsaku Akamatsu can be found on any search engine. The size of this woodblock print is 14 3/4 X 10 1/4 inches. The colors, which are vivid and vibrant, are in layers. This woodblock print is attached to a backing folder only at the top edge of the woodblock print. Ink bleeding can be seen through the back of the original Japanese mulberry paper. Four borders (margins) of the print are intact. The artist’s signature is at the lower left edge of the print. The size of this backing folder is 19 x 13 ? inches. Although there are some minor wrinkles on the folder due to the print’s age, the woodblock print itself is in excellent condition.
