Description : Marishi-ten is dressed in armor, riding on the back of a boar. He has three heads, all with fierce expressions, with a third eye in each forehead. Marishi-ten has six arms, which hold a sword, fan, and bow and arrow, as well as a long spear. The figure’s left foot rests on a chakra wheel on the back of the boar. As a deity of war and victory, he was worshiped in Japan during the Middle Ages by warriors, especially archers, who often wore his image. Such protective talismans were believed to protect those who invoked his name and to make them invisible during dangerous situations. (from Pathway exhibition 1/29/08-)
