Mount Tanigawa (1977 m) has the distinction of being one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains which draws countless hikers and mountain climbers to its tricky slopes. While the dangerous off-trail climbing should be left to the experienced and properly equipped (781 died during 1931 - 2005, while the dead on Mt. Everest was 178.
