Description : The Cockerel Artist: Bakufu Format: Large oban tate-e: 16.25" x 11.25" Subject: A Long-tailed fancy Cockerel crying from an Acer Palmatum (Japanese Maple) in spring foliage. Bakufu is best known for his superb set of 'Fishes of Japan'. This luxuriously printed Kacho design appears to be rare. Like the exquisitely printed Fish series, this print was the co-production of Jacoulet's block cutter and printer. Publisher: Block-cutter: Ito Tora. Printer: Shiba Mura (seal bottom left margin). Date: October, 1953 Condition: Fine colors. Full size with margins. Very minor marks and flaws. Generally fine state of preservation. Impression: Very fine with gauffrage and hand applied gofun and colors for the bird's tail.
