Description : Sashi-e (book illustration) for the ill fated Miya in the popular novel, "Konjiki Yasha" (Golden Night Devil, The Usurer or Demon Gold: 1897�1902) by Ozaki Koyo. The novel depicted the conflicts of the changing values and the new and old ideas in the Meiji society. The hero and the heroine of the novel, Kan'ichi and Miya, had been lovers but they walked away from each other being corrupted by the greed and the revenge.
