Description : Monday, 11 August 2008 Artist ISHIWATA, Koitsu (1897-1987) Title "Evening Glow at Namamugi, Yokohama" ("Namamugi no Yu") Date 1931 ("First Edition" printing) Provenance Private placement. Purchased 1947--consigned by family of Army Air Force serviceman stationed in Tokyo. Series na Publisher Watanabe Shozaburo Seal, Carver/Printer Watanabe "B-seal" (lower right margin) (used only 1927-32, and appropriate "First Edition" seal) Image Size 9 3/8 x 14 1/4 Impression Very Fine. Superbly executed "bokashi" shading throughout print. Light "gauffrage" (embossing) to crescent moon and buildings; strongly visible woodgrain in sky; life-like reflection; silver metallic pigments to stone-pile lower/right; very highly detailed carving. Condition Nearly Excellent. Deep, rich colors. Clean front and verso. (Very slight bumping to right margin corners; very slight wear--otherwise flawless.) Reference/Illus na Comments Wonderful colors--Yokohama harbor buildings set against a multi-color sky. Appropriate seal for "First Edition" printing. A very rarely seen print. Item # MB-18
