Description : One well-known Japanese doll is the “Hakata Doll” made in Fukuoka prefecture. It is believed that a roof-tile maker made these clay dolls for fun. The doll making became a tradition, and by the 6th generation, they were producing sophisticated dolls. In 1891, the doll was exhibited at the Second Industrial Exposition in Osaka, and it began to be called the “Hakata Doll.” In 1901, it was exhibited at the International Exposition in Paris. It became one of the most popular Japanese imported products in Europe. (from “Doll! Doll! Doll! / Kawase Hasui” exhibition, 2/14/2003-)
