Description : This boy is disguised as a servant to either the imperial family or aristocrats of the Heian period (794-1185). The doll demonstrates a typical characteristic of palace dolls: a healthy toddler dressed in only a bib. His white smooth skin is a trademark of this kind of doll. Before the Meiji period (1868-1912), it was often called, “White Chrysanthemum Doll,” also known as the “White Skin Doll.” (from “Doll! Doll! Doll! / Kawase Hasui” exhibition, 2/14/2003-)
