Description : The central figure in the all-white kimono is a bride getting ready for her wedding. Very special printing with urushi-e on the hair and gauffrage on the wedding kimono. The woman on the right wears a ceremonial black kimono called a tomesode worn by relatives of the bride and groom. This black kimono is also printed in urushi-e. A spectacular arrangement of pines, bamboo, plum blossoms, crane, and tortoise, all auspicious symbols, is in the background. For more on Chikanobu and his prints, go to: Bruce A.
