Description : Saturday, 1 August 2009 32 Aspects of Customs and Manners: #10 Lot AU39 Artist: Yoshitoshi Format: Oban tate: 14.5" x 10" approx Subject: From the series Fuzoku Sanjuniso - The Thirty-two Aspects of Customs and Manners #10 Looking Feminine: The Appearance of a Castle-toppler of the Tempo Era (1830-1844). This lady is descibed as an Oiran or 'Castle-toppler, a poetic name for a high ranking courtesan capable, by beauty alone, to bring Emporers and Empires to their knees. Publisher: Tsunashima: Engraved by Wada Koku Date: 1st April 1888 Condition: Full size, untrimmed. Retains Japanese album backing paper. Very slight foxing. Minor marks and flaws.
