Description : Thirty-two Aspects of Customs and Manners: # 4 Looking Warm Artist: Yoshitoshi Format: Oban tate-e: 14.75" x 10" Subject: An urban widow of the Kansei era (1789-1801). A woman reading a book, her cat sleeping beside her on a Kotatsu (a low table also serving as a brazier). Her eyebrows are painted in light blue, which indicates that they had been shaved, following the customs of married women in the Edo period. The cat is hiding its head under the front paws to keep warm. Publisher: Tsunashima Kamekichi Date: 1888 Condition: Full size. Album backing paper. Minor soils, foxing, marks and flaws. Generally very good state. Colour: Fine colors. Impression: Very good impression with gauffrage.
