Description : 100 Poems Explained by the Wetnurse: Fire in the Snow Artist: Hokusai Format: Oban yoko-e: 10.25" x 15.25" Subject: A snow scene. Hunters and foresters are warming their hands at a log-fire outside a mountain-hut. The flames throw the foreground figures and the snow-bound hut into bright relief against a dark sky. With a poem in the square cartouche: 'Friends are gone from me, the grass and leaves are withered, Ah! How remembrance makes winter-time more lonely here in this mountain hamlet'. The poet is Minamoto no Muneyuki. Publisher: Eijudo (Orig.) Date: Probably early 20th century Condition: Fine colors. Full size with margins. Vertical album foldmark. Paper toned and brittle. Two repaired cracks to the left of the centrefold. Japanese album backing paper. Creases and flaws. Fair/poor state of preservation. Impression: Fine impression of a facsmile edition.
