Description : Saturday, 18 June 2005 Rare Diptych: The New Theatre Season Artist: Toyokuni I Format: Oban Diptych: each sheet 14.75" x 9.5" approx Subject: A celebration of the New Year Theatrical season, for 1803(?) at the Miyakoza, with 13 Kabuki stars each represented in his most famous role. A fascinating Kabuki historical document and exceedingly rare. Publisher: Kawahiraya Date: 1802/3 Condition: Slightly trimmed. Japanese album backing paper uniting the two sheets. Minor wormage, wear, marks and flaws. Generally moderately good state. Colour: Good with some fading. Impression: Fine with gauffrage.
