Description : Sunday, 22 July 2007 Bijin Kakemono Painting: The Water Maidens Artist: Toyokuni I Format: Large scale painting in sumi and colours on silk: image size: 22" x 28" approx Subject: Two water carrier maidens on the seashore beneath a spreading Pine tree where one has discovered a Heian Court hat and robes. A highly important Japanese art object. Original fitted wooden box inscribed and signed by Toyokuni. Date: Painted: c.1808 Condition: Some striated age darkening to the silk.
