Description : Kuniyoshi The Ceramics of Imado A Tour of Edo's Famous Products If you go a bit up stream from the Imado bridge which is at the entrance to the San-ya canal on the Sumida River, you come to an area housing many roof tile craftsmen. Here they fired such clay products as roof tiles and the small fox ceramic figurines sold at Inari shrines. This print shows a woman painting images of foxes and cats on one of the famous ceramic toys of Asakusa Imado. A baby slung on her back leans over as if to help his big sister, and she turns back to look at him, both with their plump cheeks. This composition was also borrowed from Utamaro. The small sub-picture shows an image of one of the kilns of the Imado wares.
