Description : The Tanabata Festival, from the series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) The annual festival held on the seventh day of the seventh month is known as the Tanabata Festival. In the town of Edo, tall bamboo posts were set up with ingenious decorations, and they made a grand spectacle throughout town. Has the artist, Hiroshige, depicted such a scene from his own rooftop? Mt. Fuji rises in the distance, and the forest of decorated bamboo posts covers the town. This is proud depiction of the prosperous town of Edo
