Description : Shinobazu Pond at Ueno, from the series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) Cherry trees in full bloom lighten the viewer's heart. This print shows the view from the Kiyomizudo across the cherry trees in full bloom towards Shinobazu Pond. Kiyomizudo was in the center of what is now Ueno Park in Tokyo. Even today, Ueno Park is one of the famous cherry-blossom viewing sites in Japan. During blossom season, there is an unsightly scramble as people try to secure the best places for picnicking and viewing the blossoms. The pine with its circular branch seen in the middle distance was called the Moon Pine.
