Description : Sudden Shower at Ohashi Bridge, from the series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) Hiroshige was so talented at images of rain that he was called the rain artist. But this nickname did not come from his ability to create realistic depictions of the way that rain falls. Rather, his nickname was based on his superb depiction of people going about their lives amidst all sorts of rain. This print shows a sudden shower at the Ohashi Bridge spanning the Sumida River. Drawn so that we cannot see the people's faces, the scene sparks the imagination of its viewer.
