Description : Ichikawa Danjuro VII: from the series Favorite Modern Actors, by Utagawa Kunisada (1786-1864) The actor Danjuro is depicted inside of a black frame. This is thought to be a shini-e or death picture, published at the time of a popular actor's death. The brooding expression on the seated woman's face seems to indicate that her thoughts are far away.
