Description : Kakemono-e: The Paper Towel Artist: Shunsen Format: Kakemono-e: 29" x 9.75" overall Subject: A courtesan standing sedctively holding a folded paper towel. (This gesture was symbolic of sexual provocation for the Japanese in the Edo period). Her multi-colored kimono is decorated with feathers and stylised flowers. Date: c. 1800 Condition: Good colors. The two sheets united. Toned and creased. Slight soils and stains. Minor marks and flaws. Fair state of preservation. Impression: Fine impressions with gauffrage
