Description : Saturday, 5 August 2006 The Courtesan Artist: Buncho Format: Hosoban tate-e: 12.25"x 5.5" Subject: A young man, incognito in a headscarf, accosting a beautiful young courtesan; a small boy tugging at the man's obi in an attempt to distract him. A magical and even by Buncho standards, notably elegant design. Very rare. Date: late 1760's Condition: Virtually full size. Laid down on paper. Some restorations. Light wear, soils and flaws. Generally quite good state. Colour: Remarkably well preserved apart from the blue background now faded to buff. Some discoloration of the green pigment. Impression: Very good with gauffrage.
