Description : Ichikawa Monnosuke in the role of Höjö Tokimune dances beside his horse. Höjö Tokimune was the protagonist of the play Hachinoki Onna Mikyosho, which was performed at the Nakamura-za in 1723. In this scene he is dressed as a traveler, perhaps to accompany his father on a pilgrimage throughout Japan. He raises his left arm and leg in a dance position, which gives a sense of the ""pulse"" of the Kabuki scene to the whole image. (from Original Intent exhibition 11/21/06-)
