It is said to have been built in 1627 by a warrior named Todo Takatora. The Toshogu shrine is a kind of wonder, because it has survived fire bombing, massive earthquakes and even one of the major battles of the 1868 civil war. Hasui made only sixteen prints for the publisher Kawaguchi and Sakai. These handful works were considered among his finest work, especially the snow scenes. Note “Made in Japan” stamped on verso.
