Description: The first time when Shinhanga (New Prints) artists’ works were introduced was in Toledo in 1930. The publisher, Watanabe Shözaburö tried to revitalize ukiyo-e and its techniques and production systems. With skilful carver and printer and artist, Watanabe functioned as a conductor of a symphony orchestra creating a beautiful collaboration work. At Toledo exhibition of shinhanga, 92 of Hasui’s works were shown. It is assumed that he was the most featured Japanese print artist around the time. (from Nostalgic Japan exhibition 3/28/2005-)
