Description: Hasui ‘Evening at Ushibori’ (1930) Beautiful early evening sunset scene by Hasui Kawase (1887-1957) titled “Ushibori no Uhgure” (translates as “Evening at Ushibori”) and margin dated originally as “Showa 5” (or 1930). This print is one of 16 Hasui images published during 1929 and 1930 by Kawaguchi & Sakai (and as such, bears no Watanabe seals)?a posthumous edition struck off of the original blocks. Printed by Shobisha Publishers (who acquired the woodblocks when K & S dissolved in 1931). Circa 1990’s. The workmanship in both carving and printing is simply superb?very nice gradation of colors (“bokashi”) seen virtually throughout print to the water and sky’s colors; and life-like reflections in the water. Print is in very good condition?no tears, no stains, no fading-does have small (1/4 inch) minor rubbed spot in orange sky area. Image measures 9 3/8 x 14 ? inches.
