Description: Wednesday, 26 March 2008 dating proof This Japanese woodblock print titled “Itako in the Evening” was created by noted Japanese artist and printmaker Kawase Hasui (1883-1957). This tranquil scene features a cresent moon rising over a tranquil river as a Japanese boat sails along the shore. There are dramatic reflections of the moon, trees and light from inside the house shimmering across the water. This print was purchased at the Kabutoya Gallery in San Francisco in 1977. This woodblock print is in excellent condition: no creases, tears, foxing or stains; there are two rice paper hinges on the reverse upper corners where the print is attached to the original gallery matting. This print has been stored flat in an archival Hollander box and has never been framed. This O-hosoban print image measures 14-1/4″ (36 cm) high and 6-1/2″ (16.5 cm) wide, the paper measures 15-3/4″ (40 cm) high and 7-1/2″ (19 cm) wide.
