Description : 2006年2月20日 You are bidding on a very beautiful and rare Japanese woodblock print “Bijin with Purple Head Scarf” signed by the famous early Showa (1930s-1950s) Shin Hanga woodblock print artist and famous poet Fukiya Koji (1898-1979). Fukiya Koji, who was born in Shibata, Prefecture was a painter as well as a famous poet, who composed the poem "Hanayome-Ningyo" (The Bride Doll). There is a Fukiya Koji memorial museum in 4-11-7 Chuo-cho, Shibata Prefecture in Japan opened since 1987. This museum displays his famous art as well as introducing visitors to his life story. As a famous poet in early Showa (1930s-1940s), Fukiya only had a few woodblock prints made in his lifetime. Therefore, his woodblock prints are highly searched for by collectors in Japan and Europe and value at thousands of dollars in galleries today. Fukiya Koji’s information and the price of his woodblock prints can be found in most Modern Japanese Prints book and Internet such as http://www2.pref.niigata.jp/kankou/en_sight.nsf/31114b4c20e7417c49256a1c0020319e/342175e4c4f0ad954925709c0022b1a2?OpenDocument The size of this woodblock print is 18 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches. Fukiya’s signature is close to the upper right corner of the woodblock print. All four borders are intact. The indented marks of the carver Koike Shigeru and printer Watanabe Yoshiaki are in the lower right border. Usually these kind of indented marks are used for very expensive Japanese woodblock prints in Japan. This woodblock print is not attached to any backing paper or cardboard and strong ink bleeding can be seen through the back of print. This woodblock print has been preserved carefully in my family during the PAST DECADES. As far as I can tell there are no defects, foxing, or stains, and this woodblock print is in EXCELLENT CONDITION.
