Description : Saturday, 28 May 2011 Catalog ID 8342 Artist Kawase Hasui Title Two Young Women Strolling in an Azalea Garden (Mt. Fuji in the distance) Medium Series Title Edition First and only Date 1935 Publisher Reference No Hotei # 367 Size 15 -3/4 x 10 -1/2 " Condition Very fine, apart from light toning from its original folder. Notes: SOLD AS A COMPLETE SET OF SIX PRINTS, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL PORTFOLIO. This set of six prints was commissioned by the Iwasaki family and published by Watanabe Shozaburo in 1935. The title of the series is blind-stamped embossed in the bottom margin of each print (not noted in Hotei). The villa was converted into the Hotel de Yama before WWII, and the six prints were sold in a portfolio to its foreign clientele. Prints from this series are seldom offered and complete sets in very fine, matched condition are SCARCE. (See items #8341 -#8346 for images of each print in the series.)
