Description: Kawase Hasui – “Konjikido in Snow, Hiraizumi” Original atozuri wooblock print (later edition from original blocks) . Bearing the red Watanabe Heisei era seal in the bottom right margin. This indicates the print was created during the reign of the current Emperor Akihito, who ascended to the Throne in January 1989. Watanabe 7mm seal in bottom right of the image. Oban size print on thick, modern washi. Image size: 23.9cm (W) x 36.2cm (H) Dated Showa 32 (1957) This was the last print Hasui created in his lifetime. It was never released to the public in its First State, but instead was handed out to guests at the Artist’s memorial service held 100 days after his death by his widow. First state prints are exceedingly rare and highly prized by collectors. Since then, this print has been reprinted twice. The first reprint was in 300 copies. This reprint was in a run of 100 copies. Excellent quality reprint. Very good colours and registration. Very good bleedthrough of pigment to the reverse.
