Description : Woodblock triptych print, oban tate-e. Self-portrait of the artist (centre) seated with painting equipment, surrounded by Otsu folk paintings which have come to life, each with the resemblance of a kabuki actor: (clockwise from right) Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Thunder God (Kaminari), an unknown actor as Catfish with a Gourd (Hyotan namazu), Onoe Kikujiro (?) as Young Falconer (Takajo wakashu), Ichikawa Kuzo as Samurai Footman (Yakko), Otani Hiroemon as Daikoku (Geho), Iwai Kumesaburo as Ushiwaka-maru, Nakamura Utaemon IV as Demon Reciting Buddhist Prayers (Oni nenbutsu), Nakayama Bungoro as Drunkard Samurai Footman (Sakanomi yakko), Onoe Baiko IV as Wisteria Maiden (Fuji musume), Seki Sanjuro III as Blind Musician (Zato) and Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Benkei Carrying the Bell (Tsurigane Benkei).
